Special Mention

There are several other phones you can consider within this price range. Huawei, Motorola, LG, and a few other companies make some great Android phones with great specs. You could also consider buying older models since they tend to be cheaper. Consider the Google Nexus, HTC One,  Galaxy S6 Edge, Sony Xperia z5, Lumia Smartphones and the Asus Zenfone series.

A lot of them come with the Snapdragon 810 processor and many of them also support LTE. Regardless of your budget, you’ll certainly be able to find the best Android smartphone.  The LG G4, Samsung Galaxy Note, Sony Xperia and Galaxy s8 are other notable phones that are a couple of generations older but still excellent phones. They come with fingerprint sensors and sometimes you can also get a MicroSD card in a deal.

Features To Expect From a Mobile under 10000

Powerful and affordable smartphones are finally here and you have the honor to choose the best mobile under 10000 INR.

Till a few months back, if you wanted a great smartphone, with the latest features and impressive additions, you would have to buy iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S-series. Yes, both smartphones are perfect, but they cost more than a luxurious vacation.

Obviously, you believe that with high-end smartphones, you get superb quality. In order to meet the demands of users, Apple and Samsung, with their premium models are unable to reach full system compatibility. It means that they don’t have enough time to develop a smartphone which will be strong, powerful and reliable as long as a user uses it. For example, Samsung Galaxy S models, have weak displays. Even a low drop will break it. This is a huge issue if you know that a display costs 80-90% of the phone value!

Then we have an app incompatibility which will a phone reach at some point. Manufacturers deliberately do this in order to force you to buy a new phone. As such, eventually, all the apps will become unavailable for your device.

Luckily, there are plenty of affordable smartphones. Time, when affordable meant cheap, is long gone. New models have almost the same, or even better features than top of the range devices and they look almost the same. The bottom line is the fact you don’t need an extremely expensive smartphone to get all the features you need. A mobile under 10000 will be perfectly capable of providing that for you without sacrificing quality.

Features to expect from smartphone within the budget range

The base of each smartphone is the screen, so we will mention it first. It is far more than a simple feature, it is something that can make a complete difference between a great smartphone and useless brick device. Most models come with displays between 4 and 5 inches. They are treated as a perfect fit unit, meaning that they can fit a pocket, but the device is still lightweight and practical. The same goes for 4.0-4.3 inch displays. Since 2010, when we saw the first wave of them, we were able to get plenty of models with this screen size. At the end, we will include the fact that a 720 x 1280 pixels resolution is enough for 5-inch screens, but 1920×1080 pixels is just perfect. The pixel density of 300 ppi is also perfect. For 10000INR, you can expect smartphones between 4 and 5.5 inch screens.

  • Processing power

The processing power of a smartphone is determined by its processor, obviously. A time when dual-core units were useful is long gone. Nowadays, you should aim for quad-core or even better, octa-core processors. Both types are available within the price range. Snapdragon processors, 600 or 800 series are always a great choice. If you get a Snapdragon octa-core, you will definitely have a fast phone. As the name suggests, quad-core has 4 cores, while octa-core has 8 of them. This type of power allows for the device to operate quickly and to work spotless under load. For instance, if you like playing new games, you will need this feature more than the rest.

  • RAM memory

Just a processor won’t get you anywhere. Equally important is the RAM memory. Think of it as a mandatory addition to the processor. In this case, the more the merrier. RAM memory will determine how many apps you can run at the same time. Keep in mind that when you exit from the app, it will stay active in the background, therefore this feature is more than just important. How much do you need? 4GB RAM is just perfect. You can expect all the apps and games to work perfectly and regardless of your demands, smartphone will work perfectly under heavy use. 2-3GB is enough. Probably you won’t notice that the RAM memory is lower than in 4GB versions. 1-2GB RAM memory is sufficient but just. With 1GB versions, you may have some issues when running Skype, Viber and then want to play a game at the same time. With 1.5GB, the situation is slightly better, but not much.

  • Front and rear camera

The camera on a smartphone is more than just important. Nowadays we have versions with 5, 8, 13, 21MP and etc. There are two things you should know when it comes to determining the quality of the camera on your new device.

  1. MP isn’t crucial. Even if a camera is 13MP, it doesn’t have to offer superb photo quality. In reality, it is theoretically possible to have a camera with 8MP which will produce better photos and videos than the one with 13MP. It is based on the camera sensor a manufacturer uses. Each one uses different, so this aspect cannot be generalized.
  2. 5MP cameras are obsolete. With better displays, TV screens, computers, and etc. 5MP cameras are unable to provide a decent photo quality. Simply skip those models.

The best way is to take a few photos (ideally when the light is low) and see the differences. You can find a decent camera within the price range, just it isn’t as easy as you may believe. Don’t forget to pay attention to the flash! It is more than just mandatory.

Furthermore, front cameras are nowadays standard, but they are still a new feature. 5MP for the front camera is enough. If you can get a model with a flash paired with the selfie camera, even better.

  • Storage space

All types of data are constantly evolving. As a result, we need more and more space. 8GB of internal storage was sufficient or even more than we actually needed, but now, they may be obsolete. The thing is in the data and files smartphones keep in their internal storage. From 8GB, you will probably have at your disposal 5-6GB. Then we have the fact that a smartphone will constantly increase the size of the files it keeps, reducing the available space at the same time.

32GB are still enough, while 64GB are even better, obviously. Because we are focused on a budget here and on a balance with features, 64/128GB smartphones are probably outside a range. There is a quick and easy alternative. Extendable SD memory card works like a charm. Most devices support up to 256GB which will be more than all of us actually need. Yes, an SD card is an additional investment, but you can get it at any time you want.

  • Battery and how long it can last

Once a battery is drained out, all of the features are useless. That’s why the battery life is among some of the main features to consider. 2000mAh was ideal with almost all of early smartphones having a battery with the mentioned capacity. Due to larger and better displays, cameras and additional capabilities, having a battery of 2000mAh isn’t great now. Luckily, versions with 4000mAh or even higher capacity do exist. Thanks to them, you can expect 8-15 hours of talk time and up to 3 days of use.

Choosing between removable and non-removable battery is almost irrelevant. Basically, they offer the same thing, just non-removable devices look more compact and they are more expensive. Tip: If you are looking for a waterproof device, make sure it has a non-removable battery.

  • SIM-free

SIM locks are standard for most smartphones you buy via a carrier. Yes, they are more affordable, but they won’t support SIM cards of other carriers. You may have heard of rooting, unlocking, custom ROM or some other way to unlock your device. Why should you avoid all of these alternatives?

  1. They almost never work
  2. You will lose warranty
  3. You can ‘’brick’’ your device (won’t be able to use it anymore)
  4. These are illegal actions
  5. Affect the performance of a smartphone

As you can see, the main choice should be a SIM-free device. If you already use the same carrier as the phone is locked on, this is an irrelevant feature. Other than that, make sure to get a factory locked phone. Addition: All carriers will provide free SIM unlock once the contract expires, usually after 2 years.

Expect to get a device with nano-SIM. They are the smallest alternative but you may have to cut your SIM card at a local carrier or at servicer. Micro-SIM cards are rare but still used. Standard SIM cards are no longer used and don’t expect to purchase a device with this type of slot.

  • Available accessories

Can you use a smartphone with accessories? We have wireless charging Samsung Galaxy S6 offered, S-Pens and etc. Not all devices support those accessories. It definitely isn’t the main thing to consider, but it is one of the features which can make a difference if you want to own something special.

  • Design and materials

Most of the premium smartphones are made from aluminum and strong materials. As the end result, you get a device which is tough and resistant. Furthermore, screen scratch resistance is more than just important. This trend was set by iPhone 3.

But, all devices made from aluminum or scratch resistance materials are heavy and expensive. For a 10000 budget, they may be outside the reach. There is an easy alternative. Buying a bumper and a screen protector will do the same trick. In most aspects, they are even better than having a phone which relies on durability all by itself, due to the fact bumpers will prevent tiny scratches and usage marks.

  • Single SIM or Dual SIM

As the title suggests, you can choose between a single SIM and dual SIM models. If you have a need for using two phone numbers at the same time, then you need the dual-SIM smartphone. Other than that, a single-SIM is just ideal. Try to remember that not all models can run with two SIM cards, despite the fact they are advertised as dual-SIM models. There may be some issues with the signal reception. Test them if possible.

  • Operating system version

Most of the phones in this price range are likely to have an Android operating system, probably. Here you will have two versions. The Lollipop, 5.1 Android or a newer Marshmallow version. At the first sight, they are the same, but there are some differences. Most of them are associated with the memory management, notifications on the lock screen and search option in app drawer. It is also possible to get a model which runs on Android 5.1, but is upgradable to 6.0 version. It depends on an individual device, so you will have to check the official support on the manufacturer’s website.

  • Fingerprint sensor

Finally, the premium feature known as a fingerprint sensor is available with affordable smartphones. It uses a high-accuracy module in order to detect the fingerprints and store them into memory. After that, the user will have to scan his fingerprint in order to unlock the device. Make sure the desired device has a fully functional fingerprint sensor if you are looking for this option. If you are unable to unlock the phone using this system, try with security code you have set previously.

Iris scanner is definitely a more appealing feature, but it is unavailable within the budget. However, soon we will be able to get it as well, due to the more affordable technology development.

  • Stereo audio quality

Nowadays all smartphones have a dual-speaker system. The sound quality is impressive no less. The main thing to consider here is the position of the speakers. Those at the front are probably the best for video calls and listening to the music without headphones. If you are not into this, a phone with speakers at the bottom or at the back is just right. Within this price range, you can get a smartphone with loud speakers. Just in case, aftermarket headphones are far better than stock ones.

  • Warranty

Just because these smartphones are affordable, it doesn’t mean they are without warranty. But, unless you get one via carrier, you won’t be able to get a 2-year warranty. The best you can do is get 1 year, while most models come with 6 months warranties. The main component in a phone is logic board or motherboard. It is expensive and in some cases impossible to replace. However, it is the most durable component of a device. All other elements are easily replaced, including LCDs and digitizers. Other components, such are Wi-Fi module or controls are even easier to replace and won’t cost you a thing.

  • User interface (UI)

Most brands will install their personal user interface on an Android. As the name suggests, using the phone and navigation will be completely different. We have an opportunity to see that with Xperia smartphones which use Xperia UI. But, if you get another brand, you can expect ZenUI, CoolUI, EMUI and plenty other user interfaces. Most of them actually look better than the stock UI of Android.

If you’re still not sure, take our advice and purchase the Hyve Pryme 4G Android. It is made in India, like many other phones, but it is the first deca-core smartphone ever made in the country. This, 4GB of RAM and Touch2Call features are more than you are going to need. Adding 2-year warranty made this phone the safest buy you can make in 2017. In short words, it has all our recommendations.

Just in case, you want something other, all other smartphones we mentioned here are a decent choice. They can run for 2 years without the need to replace them, the overall quality is great and they are more than just affordable. Yes, it is even possible to compare them to 2 times more expensive devices.
